I can't say enough about the Grey Moss Inn. It is a truly special out-of-the-way spot, and a San Antonio-area gem. Hidden away on Scenic Loop in Grey Forest, if you blink you'll miss it (and probably get pulled over by Grey Forest PD).
Nearly 100 years old, the ambiance suggests it looks pretty much the same as the day it opened. There's an ages-old candlestick at every table, and they light up the fireplace on cold nights.
Olive rolls come with dinner; they're simple but delicious. All meats, including steaks, lamb, seafood, chicken, quail, and sometimes wild game are grilled to tender perfection over an old well outside. Sides and salads are always on point. Desserts are decadent, and there is an impressive selection of beer, wine, and spirits available.
Fun fact: the property is reputed to be haunted. The friendly staff loves to tell their ghost stories, especially on slow nights.
